Bespoke staircase designer drawing staircase details in a workshop with timber samples and tools

Inside the craft

Insights is where I share the practical side of staircase design and manufacture. I will cover UK Building Regulations, structural details, cantilever systems, central spine stairs, materials, glass, lighting and the small decisions that make a bespoke staircase work properly in a real home.

This section will grow from the same experience I use every day when I design, calculate, manufacture and install staircases for my clients.

Staircase knowledge from real projects

Design Regulations Engineering Craft

The articles you will find here are based on more than 20 years of my experience in design, architecture, construction and carpentry. They are rooted in real projects, real design decisions and practical problems that appear when a staircase needs to look exceptional while still complying with UK regulations.

Each topic will gradually become a separate article with photographs, drawings, diagrams and examples from my own projects. My aim is to give you useful information that can become a practical compendium of staircase knowledge.
